Our Impact
In recent years, CBDI has:
- Improved access to youth vocational skills for over two hundred in border communities.
- Supported 1,200 households with livelihood and resilience programs.
- Partnered with local governments to improve service delivery.
- Delivered emergency relief during conflict and displacement crises.
- Facilitated cross-border dialogues to strengthen cooperation and reduce tensions among border communities.
Why CBDI Was Established
Cross-border challenges between Belet Hawa (Somalia) and Mandera County (Kenya) highlight the urgent need for locally led cross-border solutions.
Persistent spillover conflict and displacement from Somalia into Kenya have created humanitarian strain and heightened security concerns.
Key Drivers:
- Refugee influx and humanitarian strain
- Security threats (Al-Shabaab, cross-border conflict)
- Closed borders vs. informal crossings fueling smuggling
- Strained resources in host communities
- Urgent need for peacebuilding and humanitarian aid
